Man charged with felony for tossing sandwich at “fascists”

A man in Washington, D.C., is facing a felony assault charge after throwing a sandwich at a federal officer on Sunday night.

The man, identified as 37-year-old Sean Dunn, had been yelling at a group of officers, calling them “fascists” and shouting obscenities at them from across an intersection. In a widely shared video, Dunn can be seen moving closer to the officers, approaching them and continuing to yell.

“F**k you,” Dunn can be heard saying. “I don’t want you in my city!”

Dunn then threw a “sub-style” sandwich at one of the officers, hitting them in the upper left chest-shoulder area. He then ran away as officers pursued him.

Once apprehended, Dunn allegedly admitted to the action, according to an officer’s affidavit. “I did it,” Dunn reportedly said. “I threw the sandwich.”

According to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Dunn had worked at the Department of Justice as a trial lawyer. “Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony,” she said in a statement.

Dunn faces a maximum of one year in prison for the alleged assault. However, he may face up to eight years if prosecutors assert that he made “physical contact” with the officer, according to the law on assaulting federal officers.

The incident comes amid rising tensions between D.C. residents and the Trump administration after President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to deploy there and placed the police under federal control. Trump has claimed that the capital has been “overtaken” by crime, despite statistics showing the lowest crime rate in years.

The case, filed in D.C., will be prosecuted by Trump’s newly appointed attorney for the District of Columbia, former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro.

“This guy thought it was funny,” Pirro said in a video on social media. “Well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today, because we charged him with a felony.”

“And we’re gonna back the police to the hilt,” Pirro continued. “So, there. Stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”
